  • Today, we immerse ourselves in the vibrant tapestry of Dakar, exploring the rich history and culture that defines this captivating city. Our first stop is the ancient and sacred Nyaning baobab tree, where you'll witness locals worshipping and recounting the history of the Griots, feeling the spiritual energy of this special place. After lunch, we'll continue to Toubacouta, where we'll take a boat cruise to Shell Island, a pristine paradise in the creeks. Before settling into our accommodations, we'll visit a vibrant bird sanctuary, where you'll marvel at the colorful array of avian life. We'll start with a thrilling safari at Fathala Wildlife Reserve, where you'll search for magnificent creatures like giraffes, lions, and zebras. After lunch, we'll process out of Senegal and enter The Gambia, taking a ferry to Banjul, the capital. There, we'll delve into the history and politics of The Gambia at the Banjul Museum and Banjul Arch. Tonight, you'll rest in Senegambia, your heart pounding with excitement from the day's incredible experiences.

  • Welcome to The Gambia, also known as “the Smiling Coast of Africa!” Today, we'll immerse ourselves in the vibrant energy of this welcoming nation, starting with the bustling Serrekunda Market, where you'll find everything under the sun. We'll then explore the art of textile printing at a Batik and tie dye factory, where you can create your own unique souvenir. Next, we'll journey to the mystical Kachikally Crocodile Pool, where you'll dare to pet the entranced crocodiles and learn about the town's history. After a relaxing break at Lamin Lodge, we'll indulge in lunch at Paradise Beach, soaking up the sun and the stunning coastal views. Before heading back, we'll witness the vibrant activity of the Tanji Fish Market, where you'll learn about local fishing practices.   • Prepare for a day of heartfelt cultural exchange as we visit local communities and engage in daily life, connecting with the practices of our ancestors and kinfolk. We'll visit a local school, sharing stories and inspiration with the students. We'll participate in a cooking demonstration with a local family, learning to prepare traditional dishes and sharing laughter around the room. We may also participate in cultural or sustainability projects, such as oyster processing or horticulture, giving back to the community and making a lasting impact.   • Today, we embark on a profound journey to discover our roots at Kunta Kinteh Island. We'll travel to Juffureh and Albreda, believed to be the birthplace of Kunta Kinteh, the focus of Alex Haley's Roots. From there, we'll take a short boat ride to Kunta Kinteh Island, where you'll pay reverence to our ancestors and begin your journey of discovery and healing. After visiting the island, we'll visit the museum, where you can recount the history of our ancestors as they were forcibly removed from their homelands. Tonight, you'll reflect on this life-impacting experience, feeling a renewed sense of connection to your heritage.

  • After breakfast, we’ll drive about an hour to cross the border back into Senegal to visit Casamance, the southern part of the country where indigenous Jola (Diola) people reside. Along our two hour journey to Ziguinchor, we’ll observe the lush farmlands and witness baboons and cows crossing the road. After lunch, we’ll visit King Kebekell, who proceeds over the Oussouye, a local village. After meeting with the king, we will visit Mlomp, a province that has a one of a kind 3-storey building made entirely of mud. After touring the structure and nearby museum, we will retire to our accommodations in Cap Skirring.

  • Today, we'll spend the day learning about the cultural and spiritual practices of the Jola people. We’ll visit the local and self-governed museum that was created to educate, revere, and preserve Jola customs and traditions. We’ll participate in call and response songs spoken in the Jola language as we journey through the grounds before entering the museum to see the ancient artifacts and tools used by some of the indigenous people. After lunch, we’ll visit the local homes of the surrounding community to observe how the local people build and preserve their homes. After these immersive experiences, we’ll retire to our accommodations in Cap Skirring.

  • On this day, we’ll journey back to The Gambia, making a couple of stops along the way for roadside fruits, cashews, peanuts, and more. Before crossing the border back to The Gambia, we’ll have lunch. Tonight, we’ll stay overnight in Senegambia.

  • Today is all for you! Go explore The Gambia, lounge at the beach, sleep, read a book, and/or make friends with some locals. Either way, today, you do you!

  • Today, we’ll say “see ya’ later” to The Gambia, and make our way back to Dakar in preparation for our return flight home.

  • On our final day together, we will embark on perhaps one of the most emotional and important parts of this trip as far as black heritage and history is concerned. We’ll spend the earlier part of today visiting Goree Island, which is one of the most renowned islands for it’s contribution in the Transatlantic Slave Trade. While on the island, we’ll learn about the history of colonizers who inhabited this island, the impacts of slavery past and present, and the current state of the island. After our experience, we’ll come together for a discussion and our final meal as a family. You will have the remainder of the evening to do as you please.

To ensure a smooth and successful journey, please review these essential travel requirements. A minimum of 4 travelers is needed to proceed, with a maximum of 8 spots available. Secure your place with a $299 deposit, and make sure your passport is valid for at least six months after your return date. Additionally, a Yellow Fever vaccine is required—if you've already had it, simply bring your proof of vaccination.

  • Airfare is not included, but if you need assistance with finding flights please reach out.

  • The travel experience includes the following: single occupancy accommodations, roundtrip airport transfer (specific to scheduled tour dates), breakfast, lunch, transportation to and from all activities, entrance fees to all attractions, private air conditioned vehicle, and good vibes. Please review the itinerary for tour specifications.

  • The most important thing is making sure you have a valid passport. You need to ensure that your passport is valid for AT LEAST 6 months AFTER your return date.

    Secondly, check your cell phone carrier plan to determine your cell phone coverage while abroad. This will help determine if you need to purchase an E-Sim before departure or a Sim Card while abroad.

    As for expenses while abroad, you will need to cover at least one meal a day, your visa fees (see below), any excursions not listed on the itinerary, and tip money.

    Oh, and you ARE responsible for bringing good vibes and an open mind. ;)

  • All USA passport holders need a visa to visit The Gambia. The Gambia offers a visa upon arrival, which we will get processed along our journey. Currently, the fee for a visa upon arrival is $110, which is good for 5 years entry in The Gambia.

    For USA passport holders, a visa is not needed to enter Senegal.

    If you do not possess a USA passport, please do your research on your specific visa requirements.

  • We will stay at a mix of private villas, apartments, hotels, guesthouses and/or bed & breakfast. All accommodations are 3-star or more. Everyone will have their own room. The bed sizes will vary from Full, Queen, and King. Accommodations will always be based on availability upon arrival.

  • Clothing should be comfortable based on your style. The temperatures will be above 80 degrees, but can be cooler early morning and evening.

    In the event that we visit a place of worship, we ask that you dress modestly. Both countries have large Muslim populations, therefore, you will see many people dressing modestly and/or in traditional wear.

  • Senegal and The Gambia offer a variety of cuisine options. However, traditional food will be more readily available, which consists of stewed meats, rice/jollof/thieboudienne, seafood, and some vegetables. Please let us know what your dietary restrictions are, and we will do our best to accommodate.
